This is a two-year school, on semesters, with enrollment of 8,700 (commuters), offering pre-professional courses transferable to four-year schools and career training in over 40 fields including nursing and culinary programs. El Centro College is located in a renovated, turn-of-the-century, nine-story department store in downtown Dallas. Job Responsibilities:
Bring your energy and enthusiasm to this leadership role by developing relationships on campus with students, faculty, and staff. We are seeking a highly responsible, customer service driven leader who possesses 3-4 years retail management experience, and who thrives in a fast paced, challenging and ever changing environment. This person is responsible for driving sales, financial management and ensuring store profit and productivity goals are met. Area of responsibility includes over a Million in sales volume with 87% of sales in text (549 titles). Key components of this management position would include:
- Providing outstanding customer service to a diverse customer base including faculty, students, and staff
- Demonstrating financial and business acumen
- Monitors cash flow, inventory, and security controls
- Achieves all store financial, revenue and expense targets
- Monitors daily and weekly sales; analyzes reports to ensure monthly sales budget is achieved
- Models and manages effective supervision to drive sales while maintaining exceptional customer service and store standards
- Consistently monitors and adjusts sales forecasts to ensure labor is utilized to optimize sales generation
- Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through Loss Prevention education, awareness and compliance
- Ensures the safety of company funds, assets, personnel, customers and property and adherence of policies governing the acceptance of credit cards and checks
- Manages the visual presentations to create an exciting shopping environment for customers
- Providing an atmosphere with open and honest communication that respects the ideas and opinions of others
- Creating a learning environment that provides growth and development of associates
- Being actively involved with campus activities, leadership groups and organizations
- Being open minded, creative and solutions oriented
- Managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines
- Being cooperative, committed to common goal and respectful of team and associates
- Recruiting, hiring, and training quality associates
- Maintaining a commitment to a strong community presence through on and off campus partnerships
- Overseeing all departments within the bookstore
- Performing other duties as assigned by Regional Manager and District Manager
- Be closely involved in all facets of the textbook department, including performing all tasks alongside the Text Manager.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or similar experience required
- Three to four years of retail management within the bookstore industry preferred
- Solid understanding of the elements that drive retail profitability
- Experience leading operational and loss prevention strategies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills
- Ability to build teams and partnerships
- Proven track record with people management and development
- Accountable for actions and follows through on commitment
- Results oriented, with the ability to multi-task, delegate and drive results
- Profit and loss knowledge in order to drive sales and control expenses
- Retail knowledge of store operations and concepts, retail computer systems, and merchandising standards
