Are you the kind of person who is passionate about technology and loves to help others? Do you enjoy responsibility, accountability, and the ability to make a real difference within a company? Are you comfortable tackling challenges by yourself, as well as working as a team to meet personal, customer, and company defined goals? If so 1-800-HOSTING is for you.
Who we are:
We are an established hosting service provider with over 12 years experience building complex managed hosting solutions. We offer enterprise level solutions to customers with all types of requirements. These include single server solutions, complex managed multi-server environments, as well as cloud computing and virtualization deployments that deliver reliable, scalable, and cost effective product choices that exceed customer expectations.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for talented individuals to join our growing technical support and operations teams. Not having the bureaucracy typical of a large company, our employees are able to perform multiple roles by giving them the freedom to branch out and make contributions where possible. We are looking for people that work well as a team, as well as those that can see a project or issue through to completion. Applicants looking to join our team should be well versed in Internet technology. They should understand the process of a network request from the client computer, to the server delivering the content, as well as all of the nuts and bolts in between that make it work. Individuals looking to join our team should be excellent problem solvers with great imagination and creative way of solving difficult challenges. Employees will be expected to respond to customer inquiries (phone, chat, email) as well as to alarms from our monitoring systems.
Skills and traits we believe to be relevant to success in this position:
-Reliable and trustworthy. If you aren’t here, or can’t be counted upon, how can you be expected to succeed here?
-Self motivated. As I mentioned before we have a small company atmosphere. While we will provide overall direction, you are expected to meet and accomplish goals with minimal supervision.
- Excellent team and group work skills. While all of us think we are Superman, the reality is we have to rely on others eventually. The ability to work with others, both under positive and less than ideal circumstances is essential.
-Communication. All of the technical knowledge and ability in the world isn’t of much use if you can’t share it with others. So the ability to clearly outline your thoughts and explain it to us less fortunate souls is crucial. In addition, grasping the idea that most customers just want to be kept in the loop and have expectations for follow-up set, rather than us just working to resolve the issue while they are kept in the dark. We would prefer they tell us to stop and that we are annoying them rather than the other way around.
-Research skills. The ability to identify a problem, and then research various resources (internal, vendor, and external documentation) to find a solution.
-Escalation. If you can’t fix an issue or answer a question (I know, it happens to the best of us) the ability to pass it along to another team member without hesistation. This sounds elementary but some people just have too much pride to do so.
-HTTP, FTP, POP3, IMAP, DNS, TCP, IP. If you aren’t intimately familiar with all of these protocols, or the various related applications, then you may not want to apply.
-MySQL, PostreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server. These are what power the majority of Internet e-commerce sites these days, so familiarity configuring, managing, and troubleshooting are critical.
-Apache, lightspeed, IIS, Tomcat. These are also what power the majority of Internet e-commerce sites these days, so familiarity configuring, managing, and troubleshooting is also critical.
-Network troubleshooting. We aren’t looking for network backbone engineers, but the ability to identify and document common latency and throughput issues, as well as an understanding of typical client TCP/IP (subnet, gateways, routing) configuration on various operating systems is expected.
-Windows and Linux. I know everyone has a favorite OS, and might be familiar with a specific version or flavor, but if you truly know what you are doing you can work with most any OS given a bit of time to acclimate to the differences. Candidates are expected to be able to troubleshoot and manage all versions of Windows with the applications listed above, as well as have an understanding of different Linux distro’s and what makes them unique (init, package management, networking, etc…)
- Experience with common open source applications based on LAMP stack as well as experience with .NET, ASP, Perl, Python, Java, Bash languages. In order to completely understand a customers application you need to be familiar with these languages. We aren't looking for programmers, but you need to be able to decipher code to isolate problems or troubleshoot issues.
-Control Panels – Many of our customers enjoy the ease of management that a commercially available control panel like Cpanel or Plesk offers. Experience troubleshooting these is highly valued.
-Load Balancing, clustering, service design. This is where the fun really starts. Being able to design or support a large complex environment with different technologies used to ensure maximum uptime. If you have experience with these types of setups we want it.
-Previous Hosting Experience! If you have worked in this field before you probably have a pretty good idea of the required technology. We’ll show you how we do it better.
So what are the benefits of working here?
