Poverty reduction project in Nyando district
July 23 - August 14, 2008
Volunteer project: The international volunteer project will be held in Nyando district for 3 weeks. Volunteers will come together to help out in meeting critical needs of the local communities. The main objective of the international workcamp is Poverty reduction.
Oywa “A” Solar Support group was started 4 years ago by Solar Cookers International. The indigenous people of this area are the “Luo” ethnic group. The volunteer project involves Solar Cookers training, making and selling. We are inviting volunteers to come and assist Oywa “A” Solar Support group to achieve their project.
The local people are not well educated, especially the old generation, therefore some do not understand English, but local volunteers from the community will be assisting the volunteers with communication. The community has rich culture and traditions and very friendly people.
Volunteers will be involved in training, making and selling of solar cookers.
Cultural exchange:
There will be cultural presentations where all the volunteers will have an opportunity to present their countries and cultures. Volunteers will be free to choose presentation methods like story telling, singing, dancing, drama, speeches, etc.
