The open full-time position is a website front-end webmaster that handles the day-to-day operations of the website and associated web properties. The main duty of this position is to manage the website as it's seen by customers, including updating content, creating graphics, and writing copy. (Although web programming experience is preferred, the webmaster will have assistance with PHP and AJAX projects related to the coding and the database.)

Excellent writing skills and excellent graphic design skills are also firm requirements for this position. In fact, this position only requires adequate skill in HTML and CSS, but requires excellence in graphics design and writing. Graphics and writing tone should be "progressive" and match current web 2.0 trends instead of conventional styles. (Think creative, not boring.)

Firm requirements for consideration include:

- Excellent practical writing skills and mastery of the English language's nuances. Commercial copywriting experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent graphics design experience with Photoshop/Illustrator.

The Web Specialist in this position is responsible for redesigns, additions, deletions and edits to departmental websites under the supervision of the Director of University Web Services. This position works with departmental sponsor, departmental content liaison and the Director of University Web Services to complete new web projects from concept development to the production and launch of final pages. The Web Specialist shares responsibility for maintenance of content on websites and assures that pages comply with university policies regarding usability, style, visual identity, accessibility and browser compatibility. This position consults with users to determine needs; conceives and designs web site templates, text, graphics and navigational links; and develops site based on graphic designers' designs. This position also establishes web site and sub web site file structure and permissions; reviews web content for accuracy, utility and compliance with visual identity guidelines; authors pages using web design software; and may write code using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, or other web authoring languages. Maintains web sites and web site metrics. Assures compliance with applicable regulations. Ensures effective operations, accuracy of data and security of assets. Performs related duties as required.

Additional responsibilities: Solicit user feedback on the effectiveness of departmental websites and implement suggested improvements. Perform usability testing to determine website effectiveness. Ensure compliance with established guidelines for usage of university colors, logos and wordmarks. Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements on web site usage, security and standards. Encourage accuracy, usability, consistency of style and navigation elements across all pages of the web site. Prepare HTML e-mail for distribution by coding it, quality testing it against common e-mail clients and distributing it via a listserv. Administer e-mail lists on the listserv. Temporary graphic design project for several college students who are skilled in designing animated GIFs in Photoshop. You will be resizing online banner ads for MultiView, an Irving-based digital publishing company that was just ranked #4 by the Dallas Morning News in its list of 100 Best Places to Work in DFW.
