Get the equation? Seriously. If you don't have experience supporting UNIX/Linux servers, don't have some level of server-side development experience, and aren't willing to be a jack-of-all-trades at a non-profit salary, we really won't be able to help you find a position with us.

If you DO, have that level of experience and would like a comfortable work environment with a non-profit membership organization in North Arlington, then we need you -- our Systems Coordinator, a bit of a jack-of-all-trades on our IT team.

As our Systems Coordinator, you will need the following skills, so help us help you find the right job by ONLY replying back if you believe these to be a good fit with your skill set.

  • Experience supporting Linux-based servers.

  • Experience supporting Windows-based servers and workstations.

  • Some development experience in a server-side language such PHP, ColdFusion or ASP.

  • Three years of experience in a comparable position.

  • Solid comprehension and listening skills.

  • Additionally, the following will be helpful to the optimal candidate:

  • Proficiency with MS Office software, specifically MS Access, VB or VBA.

  • Experience with proactive hardware and software maintenance planning.

  • Organizational skills, attention to detail and a good memory.

  • The ability to multitask high-level and low-level tasks.

  • The ability to follow direction.

  • Knowledge of IT trends and solutions.

  • Patience.

  • Humor.

  • While there isn't a typical week for this position or, frankly, for any of our IT team, we do provide a stable, comfortable work environment that's not as structured as a typical corporate IT department. Our Systems Coordinator's work week might include the following:

  • Answer Linux-based web hosting related correspondence for our local chapters.

  • Evaluate and replace a staff member's keyboard.

  • Brainstorm and execute an ongoing plan to backup all critical systems/servers.

  • Print new member cards.

  • Rebuild an in-house gateway server after a harddisk failure.

  • Answer member login support calls.

  • Research applications for live chat support for our members.

  • Taking a monkey to the mat in under 2 minutes.

  • Create a PHP script to include a legal disclaimer footer on all chapter sites.

  • Print monthly membership reports.

  • Modify .NET code to enable a new discussion board feature.

  • Overall responsibilities for the position include:

  • planning and development of IT processes for both internal and Web implementation;

  • maintenance of Linux- and NT-based Web and internal servers, including email services, servers and security;

  • database maintenance and report generation;

  • regular communication with organization's membership, ensuring good customer service and positive image;

  • assistance with maintenance of multiple Web sites;

  • assistance with chapter Web hosting issues; and

  • interfacing with vendors regularly.

  • Work environment is business casual to casual depending on the day, and benefits are above average, including medical/dental and 401K. Our work week is generally 8-5, Monday-Friday, and this position is in-house only.
