We have rescued 4 dogs that have been at the shelter for 5 months. Their owner turned them in, why, I can't say. Holden, Bo, and Annie were turned in by one owner and Maggie came in the following month. All are fully vetted including microchips. They were house, crate, and leash trained. Holden is the blue eyed Aussie mix that is 10 months old, that talks to you. Bo is the Catahoula mix that is 2 yrs old. Annie is the brown boxer mix that is about 3 yrs old. And Maggie is the tan Lab chow mix with the corkscrew tail. She is about 5 yrs old.

I have a Cavapoo (cavalier king charles spaniel/poodle mix) that needs a good home.

He is neutered and current on his shots and will be 2 in February. I have all of the paperwork from the original purchase and all of his paperwork on his vets visits since we have brought him home. He is amazing with kids. I have a three-year-old & a one-year-old that have put him through the ringer and he has never snapped or bitten either of them (even though I think he should when they start pulling on his tail). I am a cat person. I don't like dogs, but my husband is allergic (whatever!) and I am the one who has to groom the dog, clean up after the dog, walk the dog, feed the dog, water the dog...

Atlas will come with a bed, a kennel (he is crate trained), food dishes, water dish, about 15 pounds of food, food storage container, toys, etc. I am asking $150 to cover the cost of these items. He is really an amazing dog, but I don't have the time/desire to keep up with him. My kids are too young and my husband is too busy. Because of the poodle in him, he doesn't shed. He is easy to keep up with, but does need to be excercised.

Quick talking points:

He stands about 22 inches tall at the head.
He would be ok in an apartment, but has had a large yard to wander around in and may need more excercise if he lives in an apartment.
He barks at the doorbell, but not much else.
He likes wet food mixed with his dry food, but will eat without the wet food.
He is crate trained. That means that he will stay in a crate/kennel at night and uses his crate as an escape if it is too noisy/busy.
He is housebroken. He stands at the door when he needs to go out and scratches at the door when ready to come in.
He is easily trained. He has a great desire to please, which makes training easy if you have the time.
He is very loving and very snuggly. He loves to sit on the couch and watch TV with his head on your lap so you can scratch his ears.
He loves a Kong filled with the Kong Stuffing (you can find it at PetSmart, Wal-Mart, Target, Petco) and comes with a Kong.
He is current on all shots and isn't due for any thing until May of 2010.
He has been fixed.
He does NOT have fleas or ticks. His fur keeps them away very well.
He requires brushing if you let his fur get longer, but short fur doesn't need much of anything.
He does well at a kennel if you need to go out of town.
He is very social with other dogs.
He does VERY well at the groomers.

I rescued a cat that someone thru out around my house. Ive had her for about 2 months and she's a great cat but I have 2 dog and a cat already and cant afford another one. She was very skinny when I found her and has gained all her weight back, but I think due to going with out food for so long she has become a gorger. You have to feed her small amounts thru out the day. Its not a hourly thing I feed her in the morning before work and then when i get home about a handful each time and it seems to work. For those that dont know what this is; it where they eat till the throw up. I think she is around 2 or 3 years old. She is also declawed in the front. I don't know if she has been spayed and Ive not gotten her anyshots. I cant afford to. If you are interested in her please email me.

Wolf Hybrid

To all of those interested in adopting a wolf hybrid............PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do your research.

I have never seen a cuter puppy than a wolf baby and when they grow up, they are simply a magnificant creature to behold. To watch them run in an open field is breath taking.

But I have seen on craigslist how people will pay "a LOT" of money for a cutie pie and then want to rehome them once the reality of owning a hybrid sets in. Especially once you realize they are smarter than most of us! :)

You are adding a new child to your family not a pet! So don' t think you will be able to put them in your back yard (or a indoor dog kennel)and play with him 10 to 15 minutes a day and all will be well!! It won't. I work from home, so I spend all day with mine and let me tell you it's like having a 2 year old under foot! Not to mention that most hybrids are allergic to Soy, Corn or any type of grain and they will become physically ill if you dont feed them properly.

Not a problem.......you say??? Well here are a few things to look forward to:

He'll be mouthy! He will use his mouth like a hand........So if he wants something he will grab you. (Not just you, anyone!) He wont break the skin (at least he won't AFTER he's done teething), it's not aggressive but it will be persistant. Don't think you can break him of it.....you cant. Look it up...it's simply a wolf trait. (if you have small kids then this could really be a problem)

He will be into everything! The refridgerator, the icemaker, any food left out, the trash, the laundry, the stuffing in your sofa.....it's all game and he will be big enough to reach most anything.

You will no longer have a back yard! Rose Bushes (gone) Flowers (gone) Grass (gone) Small Trees (gone) garden hose (gone) patio furniture (gone) Not to mention the digging!!! We have tunnels!!! Ya us! :)
Ohhhh and if you don't have a tall enough fence...........(He will be GONE)

He will require your undivided attention!!!!

My baby is Low Content and he is still a handful. If you are looking into adopting a High Content hybrid then be sure to talk to someone who owns one. The seller should also be VERY STRAIGHTFOWARD and not sugar coat their behavior!! If they do, then they are not being honest or they are not selling you a true hybrid!

So if after all of that you still want a wolf, then go for it!! But please remember that this is a commitment that FEW people can handle (Hence the reason I'm writing this)

Do your research and don't think that your wolf will be different because you are his or her owner............ you will just be fooling yourself!

PS......... I wouldn't trade mine for the world!!

We have a young female Great Pyrenees/Labrador pup, approx. 11-12 weeks of age, who needs a responsible and loving home. Our vet thinks she looks purebred Great Pyrenees in part because she has the double dew claws characteristic of the Great Pyrenees breed but it's possible there is a sprinkling of Labrador in there. She and her sisters were found dumped out in the country, and we rescued them on December 23rd. She has now been given her first shots, and first course of deworming, and is in good health now, eating a nutritious puppy kibble diet. She is very sweet natured and affectionate, and has even done well with our cats so far. We have been teaching her a little leash training, and she is getting better at that. If you can give this puppy a good home, we would be interested in having you meet her. There will be a small rehoming fee, and you will need to finish her shots and deworming course, and have her spayed. Please be prepared to provide references, including your veterinarian.

Does anyone know of agencies that would help with the medical bills for a St. Bernard? I have a 4 year old male St. Bernard that has recently started retaining protein fluid in his abdomen. The vet has ran several blood tests and the results are normal. His heart and lungs are clear and strong. The vet has prescribed some med to reduce the fluid but the fluid is not reducing. My husband and I have hit a economical challenge, like everyone else, and the medical bills are not something we can handle. I have found organizations that help with medical bills but they are usually breed specific or the application process is very lengthy. My vet is wanting to be paid now. He will not let me pay out the bill once our situation gets better. I know the vet needs to be paid and he has bills to pay. I am not beyond surrendering the dog to a rescue if they will take him if it will save his life. I love this dog and don't want him to suffer or be put down. Can anyone help?

I see quite a few postings, from quite a few people that just appear to be misinformed, so I hope this post helps a little ...

1. 99 percent of city Shelters in DFW are kill shelters. I only know of one that is truly not.
2. Most city shelters would be very happy if they did not have to be in existence. They do not want to kill anything - they feel they must. The city or county HAS to have them in exsistence.
3. Most cities are not very well versed in marketing and look at the pets as a problem versus something to be saved from what we've seen - not a living breathing animal that deserves a chance at life.
4. Most postings on CL are NOT done by the city or shelter staff but by volunteers trying to give these pets a chance. Saw some slams on one recently where someone was accusing the SHELTER of changing the posting - they do not post - be mad at the volunteer that is spending hours on postings, time away from family, doing this because they care and they are trying to save pets. The only way a posting gets pulled is if the pet is euthanized or adopted. Be mad at them when there is a goof or a bad picture where they didn't get the best shot - not the shelter. These people bust their tails trying to do the best they can
5. Most smaller cities have their Animal Control under their Police Department. Some city shelters report up through the health deparment.
6. The shelters that report up through the Police Department have very little say so over the adoption fees. The city either sets them, or in a few cases, a contracted vet may set the rate in the contract with the city. Those are hard since the shelter and staff isn't supposed to modify that rate. If they do modify it, they have to make up the difference with the outside contracted vet. Most are not allowed to change it. They could lose their jobs. If you have an issue with fees, call and truly talk to the City Council People, the Mayor, and the City Manager if you have a better idea. Be aware though, if you are the type that likes to complain without another helpful idea, and you complain about the postings, you can actually cause a shelter to not allow their animals to be posted anymore AT ALL. Many shelters do not post pictures at all - they just kill everything after a few days. Honey wins over far more people than vinegar. Not sure why people don't remember that ... it always has, and always will .. if you are going to complain, have a better idea in mind to suggest ...
7. Many cities have a CITY ordinance that mandates a stray hold of anywhere from 3-5 days. State code doesn't mandate anything so some shelters will put down all animals immediately. Sad but true fact.
8. Owner release animals can be euthanized immediately. Some shelters are told to lie and tell people that call or come in, that the animal they are bringing in will be adopted or rescued -not necessarily true. Please, if you care, do your best FIRST to find that animal a new home ...
9. If you lose your dog or cat, GO IN, and check not only the city you lost the dog or cat in but all the surrounding cities and keep checking every couple of days. Several years ago our fence blew down and we have a deaf dog that was picked up and when I called they said she wasn't there but I could HEAR her barking in the background - she had a funny high pitched bark and was a purebreed Dalmatian. I asked if they were sure they didn't have a Dalmatian and the person assured me they didn't and when I persisted I could HEAR her barking, only then did they change what they were telling me and said, oh, she must have just come in. She didn't come in the front door? I learned a big lesson that day - don't believe it if you don't see for yourself and ask lots of questions since all dogs are not where they can be seen. Some shelters have a holding area.
10. There are different "models" for different shelters. Some have "adoptable slots" - i.e. a certain number that they allow to be assigned as adoptable and those hold 2-3 weeks or sometimes months while everything else incoming dies. Other allow all to be adoptable as long as they are not aggressive towards a person and these often have a very short time because the shelter is trying to at least give every incoming animal an equal chance.
11. Some shelters choose to not adopt out pit bulls or pit bull mixes or feral kitties and in some cases this extends even to Rotties, Chows, GSDs, Doberman Pinchers, American Bulldogs, etc. All incoming of these types die at certain shelters. Sadly, many are not aware that there is no true "pit bull" breed - it is a combination of dogs often varied that come together under that category. There is no DNA test that determines a pit bull, so it is in the eye of the beholder what is believed to be or what is not. So if you have someone that guesses wrong, your dog or cat could be wrongly identified and categorized.
12. Probably 20-25 percent of what comes into a shelter is purebreed. People don't realize this. And we are not counting pit bulls. The large majority that come in are not fixed. However a lot of shelters just don't check the female dogs - the spay scar can sometimes be hard to find. Unfixed animals will often try to roam. Another sad fact of how and why so many come in stray.

Here is the most impotant thing - these animals whether purebreed or not just want to be loved and give love for the most part. You can see the overwhelming sadness in many of their eyes. They know exactly where they are - the adult animals in particular. Most of the babies do not know in their innocence. Whether a mixed breed or purebreed, there is something for everyone at a shelter, and you will find not better animal in most cases ... they seem to somehow know you have saved them. Adopt from a shelter and save a life today ...

Pure Male Greyline Staffordshire Terrier (smaller, more compact than the typical pitbull) available for adoption. We are expecting another child and we just don't have the time to keep up with the dog. Dog is potty trained and just shy of a year old. Rehoming fee is $200. Anyone who knows anything about the bloodline can guess how much this dog is worth, but we just want to make sure it goes to a good loving home.

One is grey and white (5 years old) and one is black and white (4 years old) They are very special to our family and we would love for them to stay together.
