LET YOUR GREATEST GIFT FILL THE WORLD'S GREATEST NEED.

Think about this: we are the only species on this planet without full employment. We have an economy that tells us that it is cheaper to destroy earth in real time than to renew, restore, and sustain it. You can print money to bail out a bank but you can't print life to bail out a planet. At present we are stealing the future, selling it in the present, and calling it gross domestic product. We can just as easily have an economy that is based on healing the future instead of stealing it. We can shift away from a system in which people are induced to buy cheap, plastic junk nobody needs, and towards more sustainable cycles of creation and re-creation.

Working for the earth is not a way to get rich; it is a way to be rich.

Texas Campaign for the Environment is at the forefront of local grassroots efforts to protect our natural resources and our democracy. One door at a time. As a native Texan not-for-profit organization, TCE works to promote democratic processes in which the voice of the people—not the corporate lobbyists—shapes the policies that affect our environment, our communities and society at-large. After all, when a critical mass of citizens speaks at the same time about the same issue, change becomes possible, the possible becomes reality, and our reality becomes a better one.

POLITICAL ORGANIZER for grassroots campaigns to implement sustainable environmental policy:

TCE is currently hiring entry-level political organizers to join our campaign staff, which consists of committed, professional, highly skilled activists. New employees receive extensive training and continuing support on issue knowledge and organizing skills. All staff members attend regular seminars given by political or environmental authorities throughout the Metroplex or from within our organization. We have a strong and early focus on career development that involves travel and management training opportunities.

Executive Director - KIPP Dallas (Dallas, TX)

Organizational Overview:
KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a network of 82 college-preparatory charter schools serving more than 20,000 students in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. Based on the profound success of the original KIPP Academies in Houston and the South Bronx of New York City, KIPP schools have been widely recognized for creating a new and exciting paradigm in public education, putting low income and minority students on the path to college. Since their founding, the original KIPP Academies have sustained track records of high student achievement and have become the model for new, locally run KIPP schools operating in high-need communities nationwide. KIPP’s vision is that, one day, all public schools will foster an environment where students will develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits necessary to maximize their potential in high school, college, and the world beyond.

Following that model of success, KIPP Truth Academy opened in the fall of 2003 to serve the culturally diverse urban population of Dallas and has experienced consistent growth and high levels of student achievement since its founding. The first class of eighth-grade students has recently been promoted to some of the top high schools in Dallas, including Greenhill, The Hockaday School, Episcopal School of Dallas, and Townview. Additionally, several of other KIPP Truth students have been accepted into boarding schools in the Northeast—namely Middlesex School in Boston and ABC Strath Haven in Pennsylvania—and are receiving full grants and scholarships to cover all tuition and fees.

Help regulate the marijuana market in Texas (Dallas, TX)

ProtectYouth.org, a nonprofit organization based in Dallas, Texas, works to promote evidence-based solutions to reducing the harmful influence of the unregulated marijuana market, the root to many of the drug problems afflicting our youth and communities.

Currently, marijuana is being sold in all the wrong places by all the wrong people. As a result, Texas school districts in every major city across Texas are reporting more kids using marijuana than tobacco cigarettes.

Despite record levels of marijuana arrests (most for simple possession), at least 95 percent of Texas youth under age 18 who use marijuana each year do not come in contact with law enforcement for marijuana possession or sales. Without regulatory controls governing how, where, and by whom marijuana is sold, these youth are far more likely to come in contact with an unscrupulous marijuana dealer selling other harsher drugs than a police officer.

OUR GOALS

- Stop unrestricted youth access.
- Remove growers and sellers from our residential areas and schools.
- Take the profit out of crime.
- Restore respect for the law.

We are currently seeking intern candidates to fulfill the following responsibilities. Internships are unpaid but offer flexible hours and the ability to work remotely.

* Legislative Research – Assists with proofreading Web text and e-mail alerts; monitoring news for marijuana policy-related articles; and assisting in research for our state and federal policies department. This position requires an interest in public policy and all applicants will be required to pass a proofreading test.

* Marketing and Public Relations – Assists with implementing marketing strategies and maintaining social networking sites; researching potential online resources to expand campaign visibility; writing and editing press releases; and assisting in the planning/coordination of meetings and special events.

* Membership Development and Fundraising – Assists with writing persuasive, inspirational appeals. This position requires an ear for language and the ability to write clearly, quickly, and compellingly about complicated issues and programs. The ideal candidate will either be a strong, hands-on manager or excited about learning to become one. Fundraising experience is a plus but not required.

You must be currently enrolled in a 4-year college/university as an undergraduate or graduate student and be able to commit at least 12 hours per week to the internship.
