Instead of the signal going to a large magnet which moves a speaker... the signal moves a magnet within a metal housing back and fourth. You attach the buttkicker to either the feet of your couch (using the couch isolator kit), or you build a riser and put it on the large isolators and set your seating on top of the riser.

These look and work perfectly, we just moved and the new house doesn't have a theater room so all my A/V stuff is going. They are not big, but they were PLENTY loud as my main L&R speakers in addition to surround. I had them hooked to a Pioneer Elite receiver and they worked flawlessly. These exact same speakers are selling on ebay (completed auctions) for $50/pair.
