Hello, My name is Wayne Mercier. My wife and I live in New Concord. We raised calves for about 8-9 years on our small farm. This past summer I became ill with a liver disease. I'm not able to keep up with our farm any longer, we sold and auctioned off almost eveything we could.

Crafts/Special Projects Volunteer—usually works from home, or with a group outside the hospice office creating items (sewing, crocheting, gift cards, scrapbooks, etc.) to be donated to our patients/families. Basic orientation is all that is required.
Administrative Volunteer—works in the hospice office with staff doing general administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, faxing, putting packets together, organizing, general computer skills, answering phones, etc. This is an opportunity requiring a basic 2-hour orientation and the hours to volunteer in the office would be your availability anytime M-F 9am-5pm (during office hours).
Patient Support Volunteer—works directly with patients and families in your own communities as a committed listener providing companionship and support, translation, light housekeeping and/or relief for the caregiver. Volunteers are not allowed to provide any hands-on care, but they are there “just in case” to contact the appropriate party in case of an emergency in the caregiver’s absence. This is provided anytime you are available and the patient/family are agreeable to. Could be evenings, weekends, weekdays, etc. Usually, volunteers see patients once a week or every other week. This opportunity requires a more extensive training done one on one with you.
Bereavement Volunteer—Either calls and/or visits the bereaved families left behind after the death of their loved one. Sometimes providing anticipatory grief to the family and/or the patient, themselves. This requires an additional training session (Bereavement Support Training) beyond the required Patient Support Training.
11th Hour Volunteer—Sits with actively dying patients that are alone, or where the family and/or the facility staff is nervous and requesting a Goodwin Hospice representative to be there while a patient is actively dying. This requires an additional training session (11th Hour Training) beyond both the Patient Support and Bereavement Trainings. This is also a volunteer opportunity in which volunteers are requested to be “on call” according to your availability.
Group Volunteering—We will come to your group/organization/church/school/etc. to train you to volunteer either directly with patients in your communities or for a special project like making crafts to donate to hospice patients and facilities.
The first step in the process to become a Goodwin Hospice volunteer is to request a copy of our training manual and to fill out the necessary paperwork. If you have Adobe Acrobat, we can email you the information, or please provide your mailing address so we can mail it to you. Once complete, please contact us again so that we can schedule your orientation, do an interview and get all your questions answered. This can be done in your own community if coming into the office is not possible for you. You will return the completed paperwork to us at your orientation.
After that, we will do your background check, check your references and we will need a negative TB test completed within the last year. Once complete, you will then become an active volunteer with us.

Volunteer project: The international volunteer project is organised together with Kwale School for the deaf. The school offers formal learning to hearing impaired learners and they have a small unit for blind children. The school was established in 1968 as a unit and later upgraded into a fully-fledged boarding institution. The school has 17 fully trained teachers from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE). The learners have various degrees of hearing losses ranging from mild to profound. The school recently received a diagnostic audiometer. Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. Volunteers will be involved in various teaching activities such as assisting the teachers in teaching sign language, playing with the kids, speech therapy, organizing games and art lessons, teaching blind students. No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as low visual aid, speech therapy and sign language) will be used accordingly. Volunteers are expected to love kids and be able to work with differently abled kids. Location: Kwale is located in the Southern part of Kenya, approximately 8 and a half hours drive from Nairobi. Creative, entertainment and awareness activities in schools and kindergartens in Pondicherry

Pondicherry, one of the former French Colonies, is located on the East Coast of India. It is one of the most tourist places in the region and has a lot to offer to the visitor. Its laidback atmosphere and amazing beaches give it a very distinctive touch. It is also a prime location for learning yoga and meditation in one of its many ashrams. It is also the home of Auroville, a famous international community created by the Guru Sri Auro Bindo. The volunteer project is organized in cooperation with an active local NGO in the field of education and renovation. In the past years many schools and villages have benefited from the work done by international volunteers, including the 2004 Tsunami-hit regions. A shelter for children and old aged people was opened in a village 10 km from the city, providing support to the poorer sections of the population in the district. The volunteers will be involved in various activities ranging from manual work at the center, creative and entertainment activities in schools and kindergartens and spreading awareness on issues related to education, environment protection, health and hygiene. The idea is to tackle the burning issues that the rural population is facing.
I am seeking volunteers to take a short survey concerning opinions about affiliative and sexual behaviors involving members of the same gender.
Responses are entirely anonymous and confidential.
Most participants finish the survey in less than 5 minutes.

Guaymas city has been suffering in the last years unusual weather phenomena. This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected. This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops. After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school. Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs. Age range: 18 and over

The 2010 season at Pizza Hut Park gets off to an early start with Interliga returning for another year on January 3rd and 5th. This world class soccer tournament will be making its third appearance in Frisco featuring the premiere soccer teams from Mexico in a two day tournament format. Centerplate, the provider of food and beverage concessions at Pizza Hut Park is looking for local non-profit organizations to staff concession stands during this tournament as well as for the 2010 FC Dallas season. Our season also included top notch concerts featuring the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney and George Strait in past years.
Groups earn a percentage of sales with no money out of pocket. Uniforms, parking and training are provided at no charge. This is a great fundraiser for your church, school or organization. The program has helped raise thousands of dollars for local organizations all throughout the North Dallas suburban area.
Requirements:

Additional criterion for randomization to test treatment:
- Rated severe according to the PGA, during a 16 week run-in period, after at least 2 weeks of treatment with Class 1 topical corticosteroids (most potent; for example, 0.05% clobetasol propionate ointment), or at any later time during the run-in period while receiving subsequent treatment with the most potent appropriate topical corticosteroid
Patient exclusion criteria –
- Female patients who are pregnant or who plan to become pregnant or who are breast feeding
- Female patients of childbearing potential who cannot use or will not commit to using two effective forms of contraception simultaneously under medical supervision, unless strictly abstinent for sincerely held religious or cultural reasons
- Patients treated with systemic therapy e.g. corticosteroids, retinoids, immunosuppressant within four weeks before start of trial treatment. (use of inhaled steroids is permitted)
- Patients treated with phototherapy UVB,PUVA, Grenz-rays, or X-rays within four weeks before start of trial treatment
- Patients presenting with any other skin disease likely to interfere with the conduct of the study and/or the evaluation of the results
- Patients receiving drugs with a potential for drug-drug interaction such as systemic tetracyclines, ketoconazole, erythromycin or clarithromycin, or St. John’s wort within one week, or receiving systemic itraconazole within 1 week, before start of trial treatment
- Patients receiving topical retinoids, macrolides, tacrolimus, or pimicrolimus on affected areas, or taking vitamin supplements containing > 2000 IU vitamin A within one week before start of trial treatment
- Patients with an active major psychiatric disorder (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar Disorder (I or II) or schizophrenia)
Alitretinoin 30 mg QD (dose reduction to 20mg and 10mg allowed)
Placebo QD
Duration: Up to 24 weeks treatment, with a 4-week post treatment safety follow-up period and further follow-up period of 48 weeks after end of treatment of assessment of DXA, Skeletal radiograms, bone markers, and (responding patients only) relapse.
1. An Adult Patient (18 years of age or older) with chronic plaque psoriasis who has been prescribed HUMIRA therapy according to the local product labeling and meets one of the following criteria:
• Newly initiated (within 4 weeks of registry entry) on HUMIRA therapy;
• Initiated HUMIRA therapy in the past and:
-Has received continuous ( no more than 70 consecutive days off drug) HUMIRA therapy and the physician can provide source documentation of SAE’s, AE’s of Special Interest, and dosing information since initiation of therapy.
-Is entering after participation in an Abbot sponsored study
2. Patient is willing to consent to data being collected and provided to Abbott;
3. Patient is capable of and willing to give written informed consent and to comply with the requirements of the registry.
Exclusion Criteria-
Patient should not be enrolled if he/she cannot be treated in accordance with the local product label.
Teaching English and cultural exchange in rural communities in Ubon Ratchathani

Ubon Ratchatani is one of the main cities of the Isan region, in the North East of Thailand, close to the borders with Cambodia and Laos. Although it remains among the most traditional areas of the country, it is also the poorest and less developed part in terms of infrastructure or industry; creating a huge rural exodus and migration from the Isan inhabitants to Bangkok. The Khueang Nai District administration wants to dynamize the Deng Mor rural areas and stimulate English learning through the international volunteers' presence. The main target group of the project will be young people and children. Inside this larger framework, each project will address the specific target group in different villages in the Deng Mor area. Cultural exchange is the main work of the project. The volunteers will discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks. The volunteers will also hold English teaching workshops for the children of several district villages. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the village at the time of the project. Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the culture of rural Thailand in general and the traditions and specificity of the Isan region. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers. Special requirements: A correct level of English language and the will to teach it to kids is obviously necessary. The volunteers need also to be motivated to discover Thai culture and to present the one of their country of origin. Leisure time: Leisure time will be organised by the volunteers with the support of the group leader. The closest city is far but accessible. The region isn't very tourist attractive as such but the nature is of extraordinary beauty: rice fields, small temples and natural parks are all over the region. New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population. Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a traditional Isan house in the community and have access to the same basic conditions as any villager. Location: The Deng Mor sub-district area is about 20 km far from Khueang Nai city and 60 km north west of Ubon Ratchatani city, in the Isan region, North east of Thailand. Age range: 18 and over
To better understand these conditions and to develop new treatments that would improve care for those affected.
-What can I do for research?
Participate in brain imaging and take part in thinking exercises. Medication studies are available for those who are interested and who qualify.
-How much time is required?
Studies vary in duration. Some of our shorter studies take 10 - 13 hours to complete. Our longer studies last from 3 to 6 months, depending on the study.
-Do I get paid for this?
Compensation is provided to those who qualify.
General Inclusion Criteria:
-Diagnosis of Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective or Bipolar disorder
-Competent to sign an informed consent
-No untreated medical conditions or past head injuries.
-Ages 15-65.
General Exclusion Criteria:
-Significant medical conditions (i.e. cancer, seizures, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, cirrhosis or a serious head injury)
-Current illegal substance use
-Inability to read, speak, or understand the English language

*12 weeks of exercising or stretching three times a week, the first session of the week at the Cooper Institute with a professional trainer. Every participant receives treatment.
*Trained evaluators would meet with participant throughout the 12 weeks, monitoring his/her depression and effectiveness of the treatment.
*Compensation for each session attended and follow-up assessments.
Common symptoms of depression may include sad or irritable moods, decreased interest in activities, drop in school performance, change in appetite, trouble sleeping, fatigue, and possibly thoughts of suicide or self harm.

Volunteer project: The Akhas are part of the Golden Triangle hill-tribe cultures. Like in the neighbouring countries where they also live, they face in Thailand strong difficulties to be recognised and to value their particularities. The AFECT organisation contributes since 1981 to the defense of their rights, youth empowerment, elders support and cultural preservation and study. The volunteers will learn about their culture and problematic situation and contribute to AFECT projects and the daily life of the Akha villages.
The main objective of the project is cultural exchange between the volunteers and the local villagers but the participants of the project will also practically work in the communities doing different kinds of support and development works, like renovation of some community spaces or field works and farming with the villagers. The exact nature of the work will depend on the needs of the village at the time of the project. Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the AFECT campaigns and discover the Akha culture, lifestyle, particularities and problematic situation in Thailand from the inside and from Akha people themselves. An introduction to Akha and Thai language is foreseen. Special requirements: No special profile is required. Nature lovers, ethnology fans and human rights activists will be particularly interested in this project. Adaptability is required from the participants. Age range: 18 and over Project language: English Leisure time: The free time will be organised according to the weather and the actuality of the communities but in general it will be essentially spent in the community. The volunteers will have the chance to learn about Akha cuisine, massage and specific handicraft. They might have the opportunity to attend traditional Akha ceremonies and events (like the principal Harvest celebration in March). If the weather permits it, trekking in the hills can also be foreseen. New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population. Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted by the villagers in the communities where they will work. The conditions will be the same as for the Akhas themselves: very basic compared to urban Thailand, but very authentic. Do not expect occidental luxuries in any case. Location: The project will be held in the Chiang Rai region (North-west Thailand) and the surrounding mountains all the way to the Golden Triangle borders, maybe one of the most beautiful locations in Thailand! The influence of the hill tribes and nearby Burma, Laos and China shapes the culture here.

Hanoi has been the capital of Vietnam for 1,000 years. On this occasion the local government has planned for the biggest festival in the history to celebrate this event. The main festival will be on October 10, 2010 but many activities will be organized during the year 2010, especially in the first week of October. International volunteers are invited to help the local government in preparing for the festival before and even after the event. The volunteers will help cleaning the site, setting up stages for performances, setting up exchange sessions with discussion with local young people about Hanoi and different capital cities around the world.
