Rare antique 5-panel lithophane lamp. Mid-1800’s porcelain 3-D panels which have different thicknesses and are revealed in stark contrast when lighted from behind.
Lamp stands 13-1/2 tall x 6” wide at the bottom panel.
Panels depict different scenes...
1- River and town scene...marked and mfg in Vevey, a town in Switzerland.
2- Boy holding flowers behind back and girl holding doll...marked PPM 108 (Prensaich Porzellsn Mfg)...made in Plaue, Thuringia, Germany.
3- Mother holding little girl with foot on fog’s back...father is driving hay wagon. Marked PPM 46.
4- Titled “The Niagra Fall”...two figures on bluff looking at falls and river. Marked PPM 75.
5- Boy pulling two girls in sled, church and village in background. Marked PPM 42.
This is a beautiful, unique dresser or powder room lamp. Lampshade measures 5” tall and panels 5-1/2” wide at base x 3-1/4” at top of panel. Must see to appreciate.
