Casting Call

Synopsis: A play about the demons that influence black America in a negative way. These demons are competing for the award for the most damage done to black America.

This is a non-union independent production. We are seeking enthusiastic cast members that are willing to hone their craft and grow with us. Initially, this is a non-paying casting call and play, with the potential for pay at a later date if possible with our success.

The Characters -

Little MC – The moderator of the stage and play. Has a sense of humor and opens and closes the show with limited dialog along the way. This character opens with dance routine of a soulful song. This is male part unless a female can stand out by convincing the casting crew otherwise. Must be able to project control of the stage.

Whitey – As the name implies, Whitey makes the case of why he should win this award based on the damage white America has done over the last 100 years to black America. The person who auditions for this part should either be white, or have the skin complexion to pass for a white person (with or without a wig). As the dialog for Whitey is major, this person must be able to read well. Our preference is for a male to do this part.

Burnie Mae – A sexy young woman that brags about using men for money. Must be able to coordinate a sexy dance to begin and end her part. Her dialog is a poem/rap that explains her game. This person must be fit and appear fit. She is also connected to Pimp.

LMF – a straight liar. His game is lying and his dialog explains his game. We envision this part as a man or woman.

Sticky – Everything sticks to his fingers. An admitted thief. Dialog is a poem/rap.

Ass-Backwards – A proponent and initiator of negative images in our community.

Mighty Mouth – As the name implies, this person talks too much, and always at the wrong time. This is the person that always seeks to embarrass you at the most opportune time.

Big Fats – A cheerful character that loves to cook and loves to eat. A southern or Cajun accent is the direction we would like to go. This person should be larger than normal, but heathy enough to do a dance routine for 3-5 minutes. We currently envision this person as a man, but a capable woman could do this part.

Crackie – This character has little dialog, but has visibility throughout the play. He carries a gas can. His role is humorous. His strut will not be easily forgotten. The thinner the better. Tall is good, but being thin is almost a must. A role for a man.

JB (A.K.A. Just Bad) – A stone cold thug with surprisingly good smarts. His dialog is in poetry/rap. Tattoos on exposed body parts is a plus. Body type needs to be able to look the part. Must be a good reader.

Pimp – What’s in a name? This part demands that the role is filled by a person that can look the part. Dialog is limited, but visibility is high. Major role is a pimp strut.

Reverend Jackleg – Probably the most significant role in the play. Must be able to look the part. Must be an excellent reader with the ability to emulate an “old time” preacher with no ethics. Will open with a dance/acting bit.
