Vintage (1960s) Fine BOBBIN Pin Collectible Doily, 10” Round, Moravian

CONDITION:
Like new, Mint! Unused!

DESCRIPTION:
The design depicts 16 leaves on curved stems originating at the center medallion. The bobbin pin doily is hand-made from cotton threads in Moravia and each measure 10” in a diameter.

The bobbin pin fine lace is created on a cylindrical shaped pillow where the handmade weaving is held in place with sets of pins. The distance and positioning placement of the pins determines a desired pattern on the pillow.

This unique but slowly disappearing bobbin lacemaking art remains alive. It has been retained as a part of the folk tradition and it is being practiced by the senior generation of women in the villages of Moravia. They recreate the classic lace patterns, as well as they develop new ones, by using the ancestral techniques demonstrated in their craft.

They are not organized in any national or local lace guilds; they are not easy to find since they are independent artisans mostly creating it for their own pleasure and gifts to their families.

For your orientation, in Europe, Bohemia is located to the West and borders with Germany, where Moravia is to the East and borders with Slovakia. They are the two main geographical regions of the Czech Republic.

You may consider placing them on a dark background into a picture frame and display it under a glass. Such a beautiful lace creation is to decorate and embellish your home.

PERSONAL:
I was born in the Czech Republic and purchased these gorgeously unique pieces in one of the villages in Moravia. Now, I have retired and am downsizing.
