This is a very rare 1936 Squareneck Exploding Palm Tree dobro from National. It’s 1 of 3 known. The other 2 are in private collections. It’s in great shape. There are 18 of these Exploding Palm Trees accounted for to date. 50 supposedly made before they stopped making the palm tree etching. Total. 4 are roundnecks. They go for 20K and up. All are in collections too. There are 5 squarenecks that were ruined trying to make them into roundnecks. That’s nine total. Then the next 6 are all 1937/38 which was the main build time for the palm trees. The remaining 3 are from 1936. As rare as they come. 2 are in collections. This is the 3rd. Making these 3 the rarest. Not saying there aren’t more, but this is what has surfaced to date. This one has numbers etched in the headstock on the back which we think is a phone number. I have the serial number. Starts with an “A”. We think these went to soldiers on both fronts for the troops. Not many have survived. Last one was found in an attic in Italy. A 1937. Asking $12.5K.
A rare piece of musical and historical significance.
