User Modifications:
I have made five modifications to this Craftsman Router Table to improve it, make it last longer, and make it more user friendly.
Here are those modifications:
I have added a 5/8 inch thick plywood base measuring 22 7/8 inches long by 16.0 inches wide. The four steel legs are attached to this base. This permits easy clamping of the router table, using C clamps on the plywood base, to any work table or other flat surface. This makes it very fast to set up this router table and makes it extremely sturdy. The added plywood base also insures you do not have to permanently mount this router table to your work table or other permanent table in your workshop. This allows a user to easily mount this router table to any flat surface inside or outside. It is the ultimate portable router table; small enough to be transported around your shop, property, or off site as needed.
I have added a coat of Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane Clear Gloss finish to both sides of the 5/8 inch thick plywood base. This makes the plywood base waterproof and extremely durable ensuring years of service.
I have sanded and painted each of the four legs of the router table using Gloss Black Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Paint and Primer to prevent rust and corrosion.
I had attached the legs of the Craftsman Router Table to the plywood base using two stainless steel screws and six stainless steel washers on each of the four legs ensuring a well anchored and durable connection. Rust will not be an issue since stainless steel does not rust or corrode even when exposed to the weather or a marine environment.
I have replaced the two 2 1/4 inch long carriage bolts, holding down the two guides, with stainless steel 2 1/4 inch carriage bolts. I have added two stainless steel washers to each carriage bolt to ensure a secure fit preventing movement. The two wing nuts on top of each bolt are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts and are not stainless steel.
