Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing safety policies and procedures across all company job sites and facilities. This role supports field supervision and management in maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations, company standards, and project-specific requirements.
The Safety Coordinator works closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel to promote a strong safety culture and reduce workplace injuries and incidents.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Program Administration
• Implement and maintain the company’s safety program.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA).
• Assist in developing job-specific safety plans (JSPs) and site-specific safety plans (SSSPs).
• Maintain required safety documentation and records.
• Track safety metrics (EMR, TRIR, DART, near misses, etc.).
2. Field Safety Oversight
• Conduct routine and unannounced job site safety inspections.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, hot work, and other high-risk activity procedures.
• Monitor use of PPE and safe work practices.
• Work closely with field leadership to address safety concerns proactively.
3. Training & Education
• Conduct new hire safety orientation.
• Provide ongoing toolbox talks and safety training.
• Coordinate OSHA 10/30 training and other required certifications.
• Assist supervisors in delivering site-specific safety training.
• Maintain training records and certifications.
4. Incident Management
• Investigate accidents, near misses, and property damage incidents.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Complete required documentation and reporting.
• Coordinate with insurance carriers when necessary.
• Track and manage workers’ compensation claims.

5. Regulatory & Client Compliance
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and local regulations.
• Prepare for and participate in OSHA inspections.
• Support prequalification submissions and client safety audits.
• Maintain required safety postings and documentation on job sites.
6. Culture & Continuous Improvement
• Promote a proactive safety culture.
• Support behavior-based safety initiatives.
• Recognize safe work practices and encourage employee engagement.
• Participate in safety committee meetings.
• Recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• 3–5+ years of safety experience in commercial construction (mechanical preferred).
• OSHA 30 (required).
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, piping, or sheet metal trades strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926).
• Knowledge of mechanical construction hazards:
o Rigging and material handling
o Fall protection
o Confined space
o Hot work
o Heavy equipment operations
o Crane lifts
o Welding and brazing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to influence without direct authority.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to walk job sites regularly.
• Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
• Combination of office and active construction job sites.
• May require travel between multiple project locations.
• Occasionally requires early mornings or extended hours
