About the Artist:
Ramon Casas was a prominent Spanish artist associated with Art Nouveau, particularly within the Catalan Modernisme movement. He is well-known for his portrait paintings, crowded scene paintings, and commercial posters, all infused with the characteristic grace and subtle lyricism of Art Nouveau. Casas' work helped define the style as it manifested in Catalonia and Barcelona.
The Catalan painter was present for the late 19th- and early 20th-century development of modern art in Barcelona and Paris, and lived in Montmartre with Miguel Utrillo, the putative father of Maurice Utrillo. He painted portraits of his contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso and Erik Satie.
