Antique Vintage Victorian Schepp's French featuring Goethe’s “Lotte” and Goethe’s “Dorothea” Lithograph Design Tin Bread/Cake Box
Antique SCHEPP'S tin litho CAKE BOX / PIE SAFE. Stands 14 1/4" high, 13" wide, 11" deep. Antique 19th Century Cake Box / Pie safe decorated with romantic scenes of GOETHE'S LOTTE and GOTHE'S DOROTHEA by KAULBACH. It has breathing holes in the back, graphic images and text on the front, both sides and top. There is Schepps information on the inside back of the door. There is some minor wear and scratches, and minor denting. (See attached photographs - front, top, left, right, back, back of front door, clean inside). BUT this is in noticeably better overall condition than any others I have seen on Ebay or other sources. All of the wording in the lithographs is quite readable. The latch works, but is not perfect. Great Kitchen Display. The Schepp's Cake Box is a fascinating artifact from the late 19th to early 20th century, blending utility with artistic flair. Manufactured by Schepp's, a company founded by Leopold Schepp--nicknamed the "Cocoanut King" for his success in the dried coconut industry--these tin boxes were used to store baked goods and keep them fresh, while also serving as decorative store displays. $125 OBO.
