(SOLD)1986 SUZUKI CAVALCADE - MINT CONDITION-LUXURY TOURING BOAT - $4,500

type: touring
motor: gas
odometer: 22000
Remember these bikes? It's OK if you don't, they were only produced for 3 model years. I remember reading articles about them in various motorcycle magazines and how they praised these bikes. They are very rare and if you can even find one they usually have tons of miles or have seen better days.

The Honda Gold Wing has always been the benchmark for luxury touring bikes. Suzuki took notice of this and aimed to knock Honda off its perch. The plan was to not only match the Gold Wing in terms of comfort, features, power and reliability, but to surpass it and that's exactly what the Cavalcade did. They really were the most luxurious touring bike of its time.

Let's start with the drive train. Like most touring bikes, the Cav came with low maintenence shaft drive and an extremely smooth 5 speed gearbox, but the real jewel of this bike is it's amazing engine. 1400cc 16 valve V 4. The comparable Gold Wing engine in 1986 was a 4 cyl 1200cc that produced about 90hp. The Cavalcade made 112! Even when Honda brought out the 6 cyl 1500 in 1988, is was only 100hp. The Cavs engine is very torquey and smooth and features hydraulic valve lifters so you do not have to worry about adjusting valves! I remember when I was reading the article, it stated that Suzuki chose the V4 because it was so much narrower than the Gold Wings opposed 4 cyl. This bike handles quite a bit better than the Gold Wing and easier to keep balanced when you come to a stop. The Cav also features a hydraulicly operated clutch.

What really sets the Cav apart from the Gold Wing is its "revolutionary for the time" features. It has a self leveling air ride rear suspension and air adjustable front. This is the top of the line cavalcade so it has air adjustable seat and backrest for the passenger. Your riding companion is going to love you. This bike has a top of the line (for it's day) Clarion pull out stereo and the passenger even has controls to adjust the volume and station is lf they can't stand the song you are listening to. I added a 12v power point so that you can run an FM modulator and stream music from your phone. Also upgraded the weak factory speakers with Boss units.

Obviously this bike is made for long distances and has a very comfortable seating position...I like it better than the '87 Gold Wing I had, it also has functioning cruise control. In fact, everything on this bike functions as it should. It was been well cared for and looks showroom new. Yes it's that nice and I can't even find any evidence it has been down. I have been thru the entire bike. Here is a list of what has been done

FRESH OIL AND FILTER

REBUILT BRAKE CALIPERS

BRAKE FLUID

GALFER STAINLESS FRONT BRAKE LINES (hard to find!)

NEW BRAKE PADS

NEW TIRES

CARBS REBUILT AND SYNCHED

NEW FUEL LINES

FUEL TANK FLUSHED

NEW FUEL FILTER

NEW AIR FILTER

SHAFT DRIVE FLUID CHANGED

COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH

STRIPPED AND POLISHED FORK LEGS

4 STAGE PAINT CORRECTION - CERAMIC SEALED

I just got the front engine guard back on after being rechromed. This bike is a time capsule. I was told that it was a 2 owner bike and although I can't confirm that, it would make sense because the bike came with the original owners manual, and sales brochure, as well as the original, never used tool kit. This bike is near perfect, and only has 22k miles. It has been completely detailed, even under the plastics and behind the luggage. They are very rare but we're designed and built to run hundreds of thousands of miles.
