Entry‑Level CNC Operator (Heavy Lifting Required)
Shift Options
1st Shift: 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
2nd Shift: 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM
Overtime required as business needs dictate.
Job Summary
The Entry‑Level CNC Operator is responsible for supporting the production fulfillment process through the fabrication of parts per work orders, blueprints, and customer requirements. This is the first of four levels of CNC machining operators. The role involves loading and operating CNC machining centers to perform standard, repetitive machining operations using established programs and setups maintained by higher‑level operators.
Operators are expected to ensure equipment is functioning properly and producing parts that meet company standards for quality, accuracy, efficiency, and safety. This position requires frequent heavy lifting and a willingness to learn through cross‑training.
Essential Job Functions
CNC & Equipment Operation
Operate CNC machining centers including lathes, horizontal mills, and vertical mills
Load, operate, and monitor CNC machines to manufacture parts according to work orders and blueprint specifications
Secure workpieces to machine tables using clamps, fixtures, and hand tools
Follow written instructions, standard charts, and supervisor direction during machine operation
Perform standard and repetitive machining sequences using established programs
Production & Quality
Perform basic tool recognition and operate within defined tolerances
Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance with customer and quality standards
Maintain production counts and perform packaging duties as required
Accurately complete work order and production documentation
Maintenance & Housekeeping
Perform routine daily preventive maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Teamwork & Behavior Expectations
Participate in cross‑training to gain knowledge of departmental equipment and processes
Provide positive behavior modeling aligned with The Gund Company culture of care
Verify tools and equipment are safe and undamaged before use
Offer suggestions to improve production efficiency and workflow
Assist with training and supporting other team members
Follow all safety rules, quality standards, and company policies
Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct at all times
Qualifications & Competencies
Ability to follow written instructions and read blueprint specifications
Ability to work independently with minimal defects
Effective communication with supervisors regarding work order priorities
Flexibility to adapt to emergency orders or production changes
Basic to intermediate math skills
Ability to use basic measuring instruments
Strong problem‑solving skills
Willingness and ability to work overtime as required
Education & Experience
Previous manufacturing experience preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to talk and hear
May be required to sit, reach, and use hands and arms
Frequently required to stand, walk, and handle materials
Must be able to frequently lift and move 40 pounds or more
Vision requirements include the ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
Manufacturing/shop environment; not climate controlled
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Elevated noise levels common in production settings
Frequent exposure to dust and fumes; PPE or respirators may be required
Potential contact with toxic or caustic chemicals
