I just moved to town from San Francisco to start my masters program in jazz guitar performance at UNT and am accepting students for private lessons. I can teach at my apartment near campus or travel around the UNT/downtown Denton area, maybe further if you can cover the travel expense.
I have been teaching for over 12 years, and my main employment besides performing for the last 3 years has been teaching in the SF bay area at a music school where I had up to 20 students a week, mostly teen and younger.
As a performer, I have toured the country, performed in four countries, played the Midwest Gypsy Swing festival and Montreal Francofolies festival. I have a lot of experience with Irish folk music, gypsy jazz (Django), straight ahead/American jazz and swing, and Balkan/Eastern European music. I grew up playing classic rock and half of what I do now is still electric. I've performed at private events as a classical/Spanish guitarist for years and studied Flamenco for a while in 2017. You can hear my music in the links below:
As a teacher, I prefer to teach students who know what they want to learn and can be interactive, but I've spent a lot of time getting beginning kids started, reading music, going through a simple book, etc. I'm open to how you want to learn and my schedule is flexible. All I ask is that you don't cancel last minute without paying, practice enough to make progress every week; basically respecting our time together and I'll do the same.
